teacher_deskWelcome to Kindergarten!

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Angela Potts.

I currently teach Kindergarten at the Frackville Elementary School.

This is my third year teaching Kindergarten, but my thirteenth year teaching in the North Schuylkill School District.  After graduating from North Schuylkill High School in 1987, I attended Bloomsburg University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1991.  I began substituting in several local school districts until I was permanently hired by North Schuylkill.  I started my first year teaching first grade as Miss Paul at the Ashland Elementary in 1994.  In 1997, I changed teaching positions and became an Instructional Support Teacher (IST) working in both the Frackville and Ringtown Elementary Schools.  I completed a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education during that time.  I began the 1999-2000 school year back in the classroom again, but teaching third grade in the Frackville Elementary. The next year I got married and became Mrs. Potts.  I taught five years in third grade and then in 2004, I became a Kindergarten teacher.  It has been and continues to be my most challenging, yet rewarding teaching position.

I live in Frackville with my husband Brian and two Shih Tzu puppies, Onyx and Topaz.  I enjoy golfing, taking walks, watching movies, and traveling to new places.

Classroom Rules

The following are the rules for our classroom:

1. Walk at all times.

2. When the teacher is talking, no one else should be talking

3. One person talks at a time; it shows respect.

4. Raise you hand to speak.

5. Use kind words and actions.

6. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Discipline Procedures

Classroom Rules should be followed, but if not there will be a logical consequence when rules are broken.  Examples may include: time out away from others, cleaning or repairing damaged property, or written/verbal apologies. If inappropriate behaviors are severe or constant then parents will be notified.

I believe parents should know what is happening in the classroom, so our “Behavior Wheel” and calendars keep parents aware of what their child is doing on a daily basis.  We have a green, yellow, and red color coded wheel in the classroom where children can see where their behavior lies at any given time.  Children who remain in the green will receive a stamp in their daily folder for the day.  Those that are given warnings and are placed in yellow for behavior will get a stamp, but I will also write their behavior(s) in the calendar. Those in red will get writing in their folder explaining the inappropriate behavior(s) and no stamp.

Homework

Homework is given to your child generally Monday through Thursday each week.  Homework assignments are marked with a “HOMEWORK” stamp, except for letter tile practice which is enclosed in a yellow envelope marked “Letter Tiles”.  Homework should be completed with an adult and returned the following school day. Homework is given as extra practice to improve and review skills learned in school.

Rewards

Children receive rewards and special treats throughout the school year for good behavior. Their behavior enables us to have a positive classroom atmosphere.
