Reading

The Second grade Reading Curriculum is an all inclusive program designed to include Reading, Phonics, Writing, Grammar, and Spelling.  The textbook that we are currently using is The Collections Edition from the Hartcourt Company.  Additional resources can be accessed through their website at www.hartcourtschool.com.

In the Reading and Phonics areas, grades are based upon vocabulary, story comprehension and skills. In Grammar, grades are based upon sentence writing and identifying parts of speech. In Spelling, grades are based upon weekly Spelling tests. In Composition, students will continually be working on different types of writing throughout the school year. Second grade is also the time that students begin to learn to write in cursive. Our textbook is from the Zaner-Bloser Company and the website is www.zaner-bloser.com.

Students are required to independently read 25 books throughout the school year. Students will be required to show some type of verification that the books were read. This will be done in many different formats.

Math

The Second Grade Math Curriculum covers a wide variety of topics all of which can be viewed on the website at www.harcourtschool.com. To access this site you will need to list an author of the Math book.  Use “Roby” as your password and it will enable you to access the site.
