Rules
The
rules in the Emotional Support room are as follows:
1. Respect others, yourself, and your school.
2. Do not do things that would prevent me from
teaching.
3. Do not do things that would prevent you or others from learning.
This set of rules was discussed with the students
at the beginning of the school year and covers a wide range of behaviors. The
students helped to give examples of ways to follow the rules and scenarios that
would break the rules. The consequences for breaking classroom rules range from
a warning from me to a loss of recess time, depending on the degree to which
the rule is broken.
In my classroom, the students receive positive
reinforcement for following rules and demonstrating appropriate behaviors. This
reinforcement is frequently given verbally, and is also given in the form of a
token economy. Each student has a chart and is given an opportunity to earn two
stickers each day; one for the morning, and one for the afternoon. These
stickers are awarded to students who complete all of their work while
demonstrating appropriate behavior. Once a student has filled his/her chart,
he/she is given the opportunity to select a prize from the prize box in my
classroom.
Curriculum
In the emotional support room, I try to use the
same curriculum that the grade levels are using. Therefore, many of the same
textbooks and materials are being used. This is done in an attempt to more
easily facilitate integration of students into the regular classrooms. Please
check with your child’s homeroom teacher for information on the textbooks that
are being used.
