My main objective and continued goal is to motivate students toward physical activity in gym class and also outside school and throughout life.  I hope to engage students in a fun way and with a variety of experiences in order to embrace this concept.

Physical Fitness is our goal and theme all year.  We do testing in major areas with Blue Ribbons awarded for best performances, besides our grades that students earn.  Grading in gym class is mostly subjective with the exception of physical fitness testing.  Areas included are behavior, effort and participation, ability, testing and attendance to some degree.

I do Walking Clubs during various recess time for all age groups as an alternative choice at that time.  Fitness Friday is done at Frackville where the whole school gets motivated with prompting by me via intercom before the start of our day.

I conduct A U-Can Toucan Play Day where both students and staff participate with two canned items for good health and exercise.  We then donate the food items to local food pantries to support worthy causes.

We support the Hearth Association with our Jump-Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart activities in February.  I also teach dances so the students can feel comfortable socially and realize many exercise options for lifelong health along with sports.

When students complete 6th grade, it is my greatest hope that they will take something positive from gym class with them and make good choices for a healthy active lifestyle.
