Dress Code Policy (Revised 4/28/10)

2010-2011 School Calendar

+After School Program Will Resume in October 2010

The North Schuylkill School District will be participating in a state sponsored grant to provide after-school tutoring to students identified on state approved assessments as needing additional instruction in Reading and Mathematics. This tutoring will be offered to students in grades 7 through 12 by the North Schuylkill School District at no cost to you for this service. The program will resume in October 2010 and continue through May of 2011. Tutoring sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All sessions will be two hours in length and will be held from 3:10 pm until 5:10 pm. Students are expected to fulfill the requirement of at least 45 hours in a specific subject area as required according to our PSSA or assessment results.

The Federal No Child Left Behind Act requires districts to achieve certain levels of proficiency each year. These levels cannot be reached without the cooperation and dedication of parents, students, and the educational professionals in the district.

If you have any questions please call the High School office, 570-874-0495.

+Book Bag/Gym Bag Policy

Beginning 2009-2010, students will be permitted to carry only clear and/or mesh book bags and/or gym bags throughout the day. Regular book bags and gym bags must be kept in the student's lockers throughout the day.

+Accessories/Jewelry Worn in Piercings Policy

Beginning 2009-2010, accessories/jewelry worn in piercings may be worn only in the ears. Accessories/jewelry worn in facial piercings must be removed. Clear plastic spacers may be placed in piercings. Students in violation of this policy will face disciplinary action.

+Dress Code Clarification

The dress code states that cargo pants are not permissible. When the code identifies that cargo pants are not permissible, it is the large side pockets that are the safety issue. The elimination of cargo pockets includes those on pants, trousers, slacks, capris, shorts, or any other type of pants that a student could wear following the dress code. The dress code does state that dress or casual shorts are permissible, but does not state that “cargo” shorts are permissible. Therefore, any garment with cargo type pockets is not permissible.

Secondly, the subject of “Skorts” has come to our attention.  Since skorts resemble skirts in design, the rule for knee-length skirts, jumpers, or dresses applies.  Therefore, skorts may be worn as long as they are knee-length and follow the dress code for skirts.
