North Schuylkill School District

Home of the Spartans!

History

The North Schuylkill School District is comprised of the Boroughs of Ashland, Frackville, Girardville, Gordon, and Ringtown and the townships of Butler, Conyngham, and Union. The District came into existence in 1966, when the Ashland, Frackville, and Ringtown districts consolidated to form the new jointure. The students in each of the districts remained in their own buildings for the first two years of the jointure. Then, during the 1968-69 school term, students in grades 7 through 12 from Ringtown began to be transported to the Ashland and Butler buildings for classes. From the beginning, in 1966, some of the extra-curricular activities were consolidated. There was one athletic program and one band. Clubs and various organizations were operated in each individual building.

During the 1971-72 school term, all students in grades 11 and 12 began to attend classes at the Ashland Center. Grades 9 through 10 went to the Frackville Center. This 2-2-2 set up remained in effect until the new Junior-Senior High school was constructed.

The first class to graduate from the Junior-Senior High School was the class of 1976. The 1975-76 school term began with classes in the Butler and Frackville buildings. In May of 1976, the students began to make the move to the new building.
