Rebecca Zarutskie graduated with the North Schuylkill Class of 1995. She serves as a Deputy Associate Director and Special Adviser to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the central bank of the United States. At the Federal Reserve, Dr. Zarutskie oversees a group of economists and analysts who conduct research and analysis regarding the role of banks in the financial system and economy. This work supports the monetary policy deliberations of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) and the financial stability work of the Federal Reserve. Dr. Zarutskie is also involved in the public communication of the FOMC's monetary policy decisions and in the communication of Federal Reserve staff analysis on the economic and financial situation.

Prior to joining the Federal Reserve, Dr. Zarutskie served on the faculty of Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, where she taught courses in financial economics. Dr. Zarutskie has also taught courses at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Dr. Zarutskie has written dozens of articles and regularly publishes her work in academic journals and presents her work at conferences and seminars. Dr. Zarutskie obtained a bachelor's degree in economics and applied mathematics from the Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

During her nearly twenty years as a professional economist, Dr. Zarutskie has served as an adviser to many students and young professionals. She takes great pride in the network of colleagues in the economics, finance, business, and public policy sectors with whom she has had the opportunity to work. Dr. Zarutskie currently resides in Maryland with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys attending and cheering at her daughters' sporting events and performances as well as travelling to new places.
