Dr. John R. Teijaro

North Schuylkill Wall of Fame — Inducted June 2021

Dr. John Ross Teijaro is an Associate Professor at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. He is a 2000 graduate of North Schuylkill, a 2004 graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Biology, and a 2009 graduate of the University of Maryland with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology.

He has made important advances in understanding how the immune system responds to and controls viral infection, and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals such as Cell, Science, and Nature. Dr. Teijaro's laboratory at Scripps is focused on identifying treatments and modalities to suppress detrimental immune responses during acute viral infections and identifying ways to restore immune responses to eliminate chronic viral infections and cancer.

Dr. Teijaro serves on various National Institutes of Health grant review panels and has given invited seminars around the world. He is the author of several patents and has mentored many undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. He has received numerous honors and awards, is a regular member of the American Association of Immunologists, and has been selected to the Skaggs Graduate School Admissions Committee. He and his wife, Alease, have two children, John and Kalista, and reside in San Diego, California.
